After puppies have left their socialization window, they will continue to need a lot of guidance. Consider this their “middle school” stage- we are going to continue to build confidence and broaden their horizons, but we are also going to start focusing more on life skills and appropriate behaviour.

We are going to mindfully expand the boundaries of their socialization, and teach them what the world will expect of them as an adult dog. Now that your puppy is fully vaccinated and feeling confident in their world, we’re going to be opening things up a little bit.

In this program, we start to focus more on “out trips” where our puppies go to parks, trails, pet stores, and all the places you might want to take them for the rest of their full and rich lives! We’re going to ensure that they can enjoy all the things life has to offer while being friendly, polite citizens of the world.

Our Preteen Training is focused on three things:

  • broadening horizons

  • appropriate behaviour in new environments

  • focus and attention

Broadening Horizons

Your puppy is fully vaccinated and ready to take a wider look at all the world has to offer. They’re ready for things like dog parks, longer days out exploring, and busier environments. They are starting to get braver and more interested in the world around them. They are still young and impressionable though. We focus on making sure their bravery leads them to more safety and security.

Social Behaviour

Now that your puppy is starting to know themselves, their environment and the social landscape around them, it’s time to start teaching them more about what we expect of them. That means teaching them when to play and when to relax. When to greet people or dogs and when to calmly walk by. When to get rowdy and when to be gentle.

Focus and Attention

Your puppy has started to have their own thoughts and feelings about the world around them. They are beginning to be interested in smells, sights, friends, and anything that might catch their eye. Now is our chance to teach them we are a source of enrichment, freedom, and safety. We are going to focus on loose leash walking, eye contact, recall, and leave it.
